How the competitions work

Scoresheets and NHSDTC

We utilize the Sports Network International scoresheets for our competitions in the goal to prepare Hawaii cadets for next level competition. We wish all competitors the best of luck and excellence in training.

Digital scoring system

In 2018 HIDC competitions developed and maintains its proprietary digital scoring system. Hawaii JROTC is the first and currently only state to adopt a digital scoring system for its drill competitions.

Champion Drill Team

Starting in School Year 2024-2025, the HIDC awards the highest scoring unit of the year in each drill division (Armed and Unarmed). Team scores in Inspection, Color Guard, Regulation Drill and Team Exhibition Drill are tracked for each division by each school unit throughout the year. The highest cumulative score from the combined Hurricane, West Point and PacRim drill competitions is the Annual Champion Drill Team.

How events are scored

Three judges score every entry; Judge 1 is the Head Judge and the only judge who records penalties in Inspection, Regulation and Color Guard. An entry's raw total is the sum of the three judge totals. Within an event, each school's percentage is its raw total against the top raw total in that event. The four overall events (Armed Inspection, Armed Regulation, Unarmed Regulation and Color Guard) add their percentages into the overall standings; exhibition events are trophied on their own.

Ties are broken in the SOP order: the Head Judge's raw total, then the combined impression scores, then Judge 2's total, then Judge 3's, then fewest penalty points.
